Historically, reading could only be logged on Pageticker via the parent app, on the Teacher Dashboard or through the scan and log feature (for use in school).
Why would a school choose for pupils to have their own logins?
When reading is logged at home some schools have requested that pupils have their own logins, so they can be more independent and have ownership over their reading. The pupil logins are designed with older pupils in mind (8 and above.)
Some schools might choose to not use pupil logins and that's fine. They can stick with the Pageticker parent app. It's up to each school if they want to use pupil logins or not.
We would only recommend pupil logins for use at home, not in school. The scan and log feature is better suited to logging in school reading. This is because pupils just need to scan a QR code and select their name from a list.
Also, each child would need to enter their unique username and password (the username is a combination of their initials and 4 numbers) if they were using pupil login in school. So, we recommend just using pupil login at home.
How can you set up pupil login?
On the teacher dashboard, from the Manage Students page (Go to User Management and then Manage Students) you can generate (pupil) logins. This will generate a unique username and password for each pupil.
From this page, you can also reset a pupil password if they've forgotten theirs. Pupils will need to ask teachers to change their password.
The link parents button remains on the class reading page and the manage students page for those who don't want to use pupil login.
How is the Pageticker pupil facing app different to the parent app?
On the app, pupils will need to select if it's their own device or a shared device. If it's their own device they will stay logged in. If it's a shared device they will be logged out within 1 hour.
Pupils will be able to see their badges, any targets set by parents, log reading, book discovery and their own bookshelf. If you've come across the parent app it's basically the same but everything will change to refer to the child. For example, I read alone rather than Joseph read alone.
We hope that pupil login will mean that children can more easily take ownership over their own reading at home and discover books that engage their unique interests.
We would only recommend pupil logins for pupils aged 8 and above. It's up to each school if they want to use this feature or not as it's entirely school led.
